New S2A Storage Solutions enable S2A Storage Family Delivers Real-time Solutions for HD Broadcast, Post Production, VOD, Animation and Digital Intermediate Applications

Las Vegas, NV April 16, 2007 - DataDirect Networks, the recognized global leader in high performance, high capacity NAS, SAN and tiered storage solutions, will showcase at NAB 2007, booth SU5605, four unique S2A (Silicon Storage Appliance) storage solutions targeting broadcast, post production, animation and rendering, and 2K and 4K digital intermediate service applications.

Each application will be integrated into a demonstration station, which will highlight a NAS Solution (NASS), an HPC Storage Solution (HPCSS), an Active Archive & Nearline Solution and DataDirect's high performance S2A9550 using a CXFS SAN File System.

Demonstration Station (1): S2A NAS Solution (NASS)
Aimed at meeting the needs of real-time news acquisition & content sharing, the S2A NAS Solution offers broadcasters a scalable, high performance and highly available system that improves workflow for fast ingest and retrieval of SD and HD video assets. The S2A NASS integrates fault tolerant NAS cluster functionality, providing scalable, high performance cluster NAS export of NFS, CIFS and HTTP for 3D/2D animation and rendering, 2D sprite animation and pre-rendered streams. As a Secondary Storage solution for digital intermediate applications, the NASS can emulate an active archive NAS solution with NFS, CIFS, HTTP, FTP, and LDAP support.

The NASS shared file system with parallel processing storage architecture delivers up to 4.8 GB/s per cluster, and up to 300 MB/s per cluster node. The NASS also offers scalable fault tolerant NAS cluster performance with up to 24 cluster node support while managing up to 1 PB per cluster.

Demonstration Station (2): S2A HPC Storage Solution (HPCSS)
The S2A HPC Storage Solution (HPCSS) highlights DataDirect's ability to offer a cost-effective real-time, scalable high performance cluster storage solution alternative to DAS for broadcast, VoD, post production and digital intermediate applications.

Designed to overcome the scalability limitations of block-based storage, the HPCSS can accommodate up to six 2K and two 4K real-time streams to multiple workstations with a 2.5 GB/s per solution building block. For lower resolution VoD streaming applications, thousands of streams and hundreds to thousands of hours of content can be stored in a single scalable solution.

The HPCSS parallel file system and parallel processing architecture delivers extremely high sustained multiple concurrent read and write operations, while accommodating large block sizes up to 4MB. Additionally, S2A's PowerLUN feature delivers exceptional performance from a single disk target.

Demonstration (3): S2A Active Archive and Nearline Solution
DataDirect's SATA disk-based active digital archive solution offers a scalable NFS file serving solution for secondary digital intermediate storage, digital asset management and backup and recovery applications. The highly available S2A incorporates innovative hardware RAID 6 and double parity protection for enhanced data availability without impacting solution performance. Its unique architecture delivers no disk daisy chaining of up to 480 drives, and can perform high speed backup of up to 10TB/hr.

The S2A storage solution delivers the highest density in the smallest footprint, taking up only two floor tiles or the equivalent of up to 125 hours of 4K 10 bit resolution video, up to 500 hours of 2K 10 bit resolution video, 650 hours of high resolution HDTV (1080i) at 10 bit, or up to 48,000 hours of 25Mb/s video.

Demonstration (4): S2A9550 with CXFS SAN File System
This S2A real-time, heterogeneous data sharing storage area network solution delivers extreme performance of up to 15 GB/s per file system while sustaining a high quality of service for applications in post production, 2K/4K digital intermediate, VoD and tapeless broadcast workflows.

The S2A with CXFS SAN file system eliminates the need for islands of storage by creating a consolidated storage pool with shared access to data files. Coupled with the S2A's parallel processing architecture, data is immediately accessible from any OS, eliminating any delays due to data transfers. This performance translates to streaming up to 700 plus concurrent streams at 25 Mb/s for VoD, up to six 2K and two 4K real time streams for digital intermediate playback, while being able to store hundreds to thousands of hours of content.
