The nucleus of power behind the S2A's industry-leading data transfer and protection capabilities comes from our DirectRAID Engine. This scalable, high-performance, hardware-accelerated RAID engine utilizes intelligent algorithms and leverages a high-speed internally parallel system architecture to completely streamline and parallelize the data path resulting in real-time data transfers and on-the-fly RAID parity calculations/correction.
Because the parallelized hardware architecture is so efficient, S2A Storage Systems rapidly generate data parity during write operations and verify it on read operations, all at full-speed and in real-time. The DirectRAID engine enables writes to the system occur just as fast as reads, which is in stark contrast to conventional storage systems which pay a heavy write performance penalty, often as much as 50%. DirectRAID's ability to write so quickly, enables SATAssure to detect and correct disk drive media errors and saves applications from exposure to silent data corruption without impacing performance. In addition, this enables S2A users to address high performance requirements using RAID 6 configurations - something that other RAID storage arrays haven't been able to achieve.
