The S2A Network Attached Storage (NAS)Storage Solution is a scalable, high-performance data service designed to provide highly available, standards-based access across the enterprise. Unlike traditional NAS approaches that limit flexibility and namespace scalability, the S2A NAS Solution scales performance through the use of clustered NAS servers and S2A Appliance-based storage systems. Easy to deploy, use and manage, the open platform S2A NAS Solution is routinely chosen for a variety of online, near-line and backup applications.
S2A NAS Storage Solution scales NFS, CIFS and HTTP file services across as many as 16 S2A NAS servers - all presenting a common data set. S2A NAS Solution delivers high performance (up to 8X greater than traditional filers) and maintains quality of service without any performance penalties even under failure conditions.

The S2A NAS Solution combines S2A technology with intelligent clustered file serving to enable large pools of storage accessible with common network protocols – reducing the proliferation of file serving appliances and simplifying data management.
Scalable NAS Performance
Intelligently distributes data across 2-16 clustered S2A NAS servers to load-balance NAS client access and scale storage cluster performance.
Fault Tolerant Data Service
Client load-balancing and failover is implemented through the use of virtualized network and host mapping, effectively disassociating the file system client from any given NAS server HW or network path failure. These virtualized hosts are distributed to the clients in such a way where clients can be redirected from one server to the other to either avoid file system hotspots or avoid a failed data path. All of the NAS servers present a common, coherent data set to all of the clients - applications continue to have access to online data without material interruption of service.
The performance impact of any one S2A NAS server failure is mitigated by the availability of a scalable pool of online, clustered NAS servers. Compared to a traditional NAS system which loses 50% of storage performance during a filer head outage, any S2A NAS server failure only reduces the aggregate online resources by as little as 1/16th.
NDMP-Free, High Performance Backups
Mount backup servers directly onto the storage cluster for high-speed NDMP-free backup and restore performance. Because the underlying architecture of the S2A NAS Solution includes a clustered file system, and because all file server nodes can see all data, backup servers can be deployed outside of the NFS, CIFS and HTTP data path resulting in unencumbered high-speed backup performance. This direct backup capability ensures that backup and restore activities do not bottleneck your application performance.
